You may have seen this on the news. A research team at Carnegie Mellon University have concluded that emissions from electronic devises aboard aircraft, including cell phones, laptops, electronic games, etc. may actually interfere with aircraft electronics (especially GPS) more than was previously thought.

Here's a link to the press release (http://www.cmu.edu/PR/releases06/060228_cellphone.html) about the study.

For those who are interested, a feature-length article about the study is available on line in the engineering magazine IEEE Spectrum:

Unsafe At Any Airspeed? (http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/mar06/3069)

Thanks Doc Sullivan –

I just forwarded the article to my boss, who refuses to believe that his cell phone should be off during take-off and landing let alone at any altitude.

Hopefully he will heed to the fact; it’s better to be safe than sorry.
