I have heard that you really cannot dump fuel on an Airbus and that is part of the reason the flew around for more than 3 hours, to burn it off. Anyone know for sure?

I wonder if the pax were able to watch the account unfold from their TVs too?

Hats off to those pilots for sure. Did you see that? Right down the centerline of that runway! Woo hoo!

I must say, though, I was thinking of the cabin crew -- 3+ hours is an awfully long time to have to contemplate an emergency landing. I've had more than one F/A tell me that, ideally, they would like to have just enough time to properly prepare the cabin and pax for the emergency landing, but not so much time that you get to dwell on the possible implications.

This is called "anticipatory stress," by the way, and that can be one of the toughest kinds of acute stress to deal with. Anticipatory stress = looking ahead to an aversive event that can't be avoided. Everything from "I have to go to the dentist for a root canal on Monday," to "there's a Category 5 hurricane tracking toward us and it will be here in two more days," to "the landing gear is busted and we have to land with it like that three hours from now." Yikes! :shock:

You sweat, your stomach is in knots, you're tense beyond belief -- and it just won't go away until the anticipated nasty event has come and gone.

Thank God the Jet Blue incident yesterday had SUCH a favorable outcome!

Watching that landing unfold, it was all told in the actions of the passengers as they deplanned. No one seemed hysterical or overwrought. No one sought out the cameras or wanted individual attention. I did see one passenger turn arond before he boarded the bus and look at the front landing gear. Kudos to those F/A's who kept a calm atmosphere on board. It paid off.
